A diary with a difference…..

Day Off??

A day off on flat Holm for the staff!!  What on earth do we get up to on an island that is only 550m across when we are not working??

We are an island of readers, we have a huge stockpile of books to work our way through, me and Lisa are at this moment racing each other through a series of eleven books by Terry Goodkind, i’m winning!!  I have been for a little walk today through the 4-5 inches of snow, looking out for the little rabbit tracks and those of the wild Soay sheep.  I took 30 minutes out of my day to do a little work and painted the floor of a store room in the barracks, the only bit of work I did on my day off i promise!!  Finally finished making all my christmas cards, just got to wait for a boat to send them off now, they will never arrive in time, I think next year i should start in Oct…

Ross and Nikki went for a shore walk which doubled up as a snow ball fight outside the boot room, very amusing, im pleased to say Nikki won.  The sheep found it all very confusing but didn’t waste any time running to the feeder at the smell of fresh hay, they are keeping well in this cold weather, seemingly quite unfazed.

Will kept himself busy in the workshop making a set of ski’s!!  I’m not quite sure the situation is so desperate but they looked pretty cool, unfortunately by the time he finished the snow had become a little slushy, but they still look cool.  Kat on the otherhand treated us all to a lovely tray of freshly made flap jacks, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.  Lisa has been brain training and staying indoor where it is relatively warm.

Had a lovely meal courtesy of Will and now we are chilling in the lounge, Helga (woodburner) is going full blast keeping us nice and cosy and we are settling into a few quick fire rounds of monopoly deal.  Movie night aswell, not sure what we are watching yet but with all the different tastes in movies on this island its bound to be good.

Well, I thought I would give you a taste of what lifes like for a Warden on here.  With a great team, its a great life, full of fun and laughter.  Back to work tommorro though.  We will be having a group wood chopping session, so there will be plenty of wood ready for the Christmas Holiday group, getting the Farmhouse ready and maybe finishing off a few miscellaneous maintenance jobs.

Bye for now.

Hi guys and girls, I like the new blog and check in most
days to see what’s going on down there. I look back fondly on my
brief stay on t’island. Keep up the good work… Is my cabinet
still standing or did Sam pinch it for a bed base???

    • Hi John!

Great to hear from you and hope all is well? The cabinet still has pride of place in the lounge and is currently overflowing with books!
From all the Island team we wish you a happy Christmas and New Year.

      Keep in touch.
