A diary with a difference…..

Snow drifts…

Yesterday saw most of Flat Holm blasted by bitter north easterly winds, dumping huge amounts of snow all over the Island.  We started the day with the best intentions and even managed to persevere until midday, but as the relentless snow battering continued we finally succumbed and retreated to the shelter of the farmhouse.  The rest of the day was spent checking the animals, making sure water and food was available for all, and even clearing the entrance to the chicken house so it could actually be used! Another snow patrol in the afternoon for a general check of Island buildings turned into an inevitable snow ball fight. It was a battle to walk through many areas, with some snow drifts at waist height!

This year’s supply of Island elderberry wine made an early appearance but tasted perfect last night as we all enjoyed pizza and a competitive game of monopoly!  The next days will see us busy preparing the farmhouse for the Christmas residential and for some of us, packing for a Christmas at home, if we manage to get off…
